Integration of Nanostructured Titania (NST) into Microsystems
IV. NST as Adhesion Layer for Enhanced Cell Attachement

For some microsystem applications it is desirable that cells adhere to the surface as quickly as possible. In collaboration with the research group of Professor Cyrus Safinya, we are exploring the use of NST as cell adhesion layer on devices. It was found that fibroblast and neuronal cells exhibit excellent adhesion to Ti-based thin films and NST. Figure 3 shows fibroblast cells cultured on (a and b) unpatterned and (c and d) patterned NST.
