Materials Department Chair elected Fellow of the Materials Research SocietyJames S. Speck, Chair of the Materials Department in the College of Engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the Materials Research Society, "for seminal studies of strain relaxation in epitaxial films, and for the development of molecular beam epitaxial growth of GaN, and applications of nonpolar orientations of GaN."The title of MRS Fellow honors members who are notable for their distinguished research accomplishments and their outstanding contributions to the advancement of materials research, world-wide. MRS Fellow is a lifetime title, and the honor is highly selective--the number of Fellows that may be elected each year is approximately 0.2% of the current MRS Membership. This is the first year that the society has elected Fellows; members of this inaugural class of Fellows were honored at the Society's Spring Meeting in San Francisco in March. |
