Robert M. Gray: California Coding

In 1974, UCSB faculty and students were pioneers in the first packet speech communication over the Arpanet, the forerunner to what we now call Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Hear distinguished guest lecturer Robert M. Gray give a talk titled California Coding: early LPC speech in Santa Barbara, Marina del Rey, and Silicon Valley, and its accidental impact on the Internet protocol.
