Biomolecular Science and Engineering Program (BMSE)

The BMSE is an interdepartmental graduate program that leads to the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with an optional emphasis in Biophysics and Bioengineering. It has the fundamental goal of providing postgraduate training and education at the interface between the biological and physical sciences and engineering. The program helps meet critical needs for trained scientists who can work with interdisciplinary teams to solve important problems in both the public and private sectors. The program is designed to provide rigorous yet flexible interdisciplinary training in bio- molecular science and engineering, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, biomaterials and systems biology that cannot readily be accomplished within the natural confines of traditional academic departmental programs. The program involves students from a variety of backgrounds and career goals in engineering and the sciences.
