UCSB Engineering

Computational Science and Engineering Program and IGERT

Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) is a rapidly growing multidisciplinary area with connections to the sciences, engineering, mathematics, and computer science. It focuses on the integration of knowledge and methodologies from all of these disciplines to create powerful problem-solving tools for a wide range of important and timely problems in science and engineering. This program, in collaboration with the Departments of Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Geology, Mathematics, and Mechanical Engineering, offers an optional Master's and Ph.D. degree emphasis in CSE.

The Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship program is an NSF-funded initiative for improving the quality and relevance of graduate education. The UCSB IGERT program in CSE, with an emphasis on multi-scale problems from engineering and science, is prestigious and competitive. Each year IGERT fellowships are awarded to only about six incoming graduate students throughout the UCSB campus.
